Rules of Intake

Earthenware, Glaze, Decal Prints, MDF, 140 x 55 x 18 cm, 2015

'Rules of Intake’ is an installation of ceramic vessels displaying slogans taken from nutritional information on food packaging, which was inspired by a bookshelf containing more than 100 different diet books at the Wellcome Collection’s permanent exhibition ‘Medicine Now' (London). Struck by the absurdity and imperative tone of the language used on food packaging, I collected slogans from food proclaiming itself to be nutritional and healthy found in everyday supermarkets. The vessels themselves are directly cast from plastic food containers; their shiny glazed surfaces resemble plastic and serve as a canvas to display scaled up elements of the slogan’s typography.
