Rules of Intake

Earthenware, various dimensions; MDF

'Rules of Intake’ is an installation of ceramic vessels displaying slogans taken from nutritional information on food packaging, which was inspired by a bookshelf containing more than 100 different diet books at the Wellcome Collection’s permanent exhibition ‘Medicine Now'. Struck by the absurdity and imperative tone of the language used on food packaging, I collected slogans from food proclaiming itself to be nutritional and healthy found in everyday supermarkets. The vessels themselves are directly cast from plastic food containers; their shiny glazed surfaces resemble plastic and serve as a canvas to display scaled up elements of the slogan’s typography.
